Clent History Society

In 2018 we open on March 15 with Julian Hunt, the distinguished local historian, who will talk about the Bluebird Toffee Factory, a building no doubt familiar to us all. The factory was designed by Norman Cooke, a leading Birmingham architect, who designed the City’s Hall of Memory. It was opened in 1927 and quickly contributed to a transformation of the economy of Hunnington and Romsley by providing much needed female employment. The creation of the model village increased the rate and enabled Hunnington to form its own parish council.

Julian Hunt was born in Romsley and worked in Birmingham Reference Library before becoming a local history librarian in Oldham and later in Aylesbury. He wrote the Millennium History of Romsley in 1999 and the History of Halesowen in 2003. We hope you will join us - everyone is most welcome. The group meets at 8pm in Clent Parish Hall.
