The visit to Waterperry Gardens Visit in June was thoroughly enjoyed by the members and friends. Weather was good which of course makes a great difference when visiting gardens but the impact of the colourful borders and interesting exhibits of old tools and art gave interest to everyone. There were some wonderful plants to buy and of course the most important thing a good, well stocked refreshment ‘pad’.

Therapeutic horticulture for disadvantaged people, in other words ‘Thrive’ Amanda Field opened our eyes to the work and successes of a very important facet of gardening. Amanda was interesting and opened our eyes to the many beneficiaries of this charity. Members were given the chance to explore some of the problems people in need experience by planting a pot single handed or being blindfolded to encompass another simple job. Some members were so moved they volunteered their services to ‘Thrift’. What a lovely end to the evening.

August 12 is the annual outside visit to a private garden please do not miss spending an evening with Tim and Lesley Smith at Astley Towne House. Please contact Olive 01562 777451 if you wish to join us on the evening.

The last outing of the year is to Upton House in Warwickshire on Tuesday, September 8. A beautiful garden surrounding a very interesting house with a large exhibition of china, (particularly loved by Henry Sanderson of Antique road Show fame) and a large art exhibition and of course a very good tea room.
