The planned speaker for our January meeting was unable to attend so our Secretary, Val Everton stepped in at the last moment. Val has been associated with the Local Women’s Refuge for over 26 years and told us of her involvement over this time. She started as a care worker but very soon became a Volunteer Co-ordinator. She told us of her time there and of activities both serious and amusing. Her talk was interesting and entertaining and much enjoyed by all who heard it Several events have already been planned these include the Pancake Lunch at Hagley Community Centre, the luncheon club meal on the 9 March and a visit to Fiddler on the Roof at the Rose Theatre, Wednesday, 10 March.

Chairman Ray Porter opened the Society’s February meeting by welcoming visitors and new members, detailing the outing to the Morgan Factory and Malvern Priory on 27th April, inviting members and friends to the Social on 21st May and advertising the ramble around Halesowen on the following Sunday.

Rotarians were out shaking the cans in the run up to Christmas. The club has already donated £1,500 to Alzheimer’s in Kidderminster and also gave £100 to Kemp and Mary Stevens Hospices, Hagley Senior Citizens, Blakedown Friday Club, Elizabeth Attwood House and Sunfield Children’s Home. The club’s Christmas party was at the Stone Manor Hotel.
