GENEROUS golfers in Hagley swung into action to raise thousands of pounds for children's charity Barnardo’s.

Ken Butlin, who was the captain of Hagley Golf and Country Club last year, raised more than £2,700 at various fundraising events held during his year in office.

The sum was topped up by a £1,500 contribution from Barclays Bank.

Mr Butlin picked Barnardo’s as his chosen charity after hearing about the vital support it provides to children, from his partner Cheryl, who works in the property and facilities management team at Barnardo’s Midland headquarters in Halesowen.

He said: “I’ve heard so much about the great services Barnardo’s has not only in the Midlands but right across the country supporting vulnerable children and helping transform their lives, so it was not difficult to decide that it would be my chosen charity of the year.”

Barnardo’s community fundraising volunteer manager, Alison Knott added: “We are delighted that Ken has raised so much – the money will really make a difference to so many children’s lives.

“I’d like to thank him and everyone at Hagley Golf Club who supported the fund raising events throughout the year.

"Our thanks also to Barclays for their ongoing support in boosting the amount of funds raised in the community.”
