A HAGLEY schoolgirl got a taste of success when she won the first heat of the Rotary Young Chef Competition.

Lucy Edwards beat off stiff competition at the local heat, held at Pedmore Technology College on December 3.

The Hagley Catholic High School student's winning menu included a starter of pan fried ricotta with a tomato salad, a main course of pork chops with sage and potato slices and a dessert of iced berries with limoncello white chocolate sauce.

Catherine Abbotts, head of design and technology at the Brake Lane school, said: "I am delighted that Lucy was successful in winning the Rotary Young Chef competition. She designed a creative and skilled menu.

"Lucy was well organized on the day working well to the time constraints and paid careful attention to the overall finish of her meal."

The 13-year-old will now go on to compete in the district heat of the competition with runner up, George Westwood of Old Swinford Hospital.
