HAGLEY Scouts are looking at all options in an attempt to improve their Hall Lane headquarters.

The group has to decide whether to refurbish its existing premises or replace the building altogether.

Group Scout Leader Sue Corlett confirmed: "The scout hut roof needs to be replaced. It's an asbestos roof and would cost £25,000.

"Alternatively we're looking at a completely new building, but we have to work out whether that would be cost effective."

The scouts have been boosted after raising around £4,500 from their annual bonfire which attracted just under 1,900 people.

The event took place in a field loaned to them by Lord Cobham opposite Webbs Garden Centre.

Sue said: "It was a splendid turnout. We're hoping to run another one next year when we will be looking to have a few more stalls.

"It's no secret that we need a new scout hut, because of the demand; we're over subscribed.

"Scouting is extremely popular at the moment and we already have a substantial waiting list with people wanting to join.

"In fact, the amount of people wanting to join might be even more than we think because everyone is aware there is a considerable waiting list and have given up.

"As a result, we are always on the lookout for leaders and anyone who can help us to raise funds."
