FILM-MAKER Tom Lee Rutter is looking to make a documentary on the unsolved mystery of who put Bella in the Wych Elm.

Tom, from Kidderminster, is trying to obtain any information about the mystery, which dates back to 1943 when the body of a woman was found inside a Wych elm tree at Hagley Wood, situated off the Birmingham to Kidderminster Road.

He said: "It became a big investigation at the time because nobody in Hagley knew anything about the body that was discovered by four lads who were out poaching at the time.

"But in 1944, graffiti appeared on the Wychbury Obelisk posing the question: "Who put Bella in the Wych Elm?

"It's only recently that the graffiti has been scrubbed off as part of restoration work taking place in Hagley Park.

"Speculation surrounding the incident has continued ever since. Some have put it down to witchcraft, others believe 'Bella' was a German spy parachuted in - whose body was disposed of.

"The mystery remains unsolved to this day. I'm not trying to solve it, but I would like to hear from anyone who has any information about the incident which was first reported in the County Express on April 24, 1943."
