UNHAPPY Hagley Parish Council chairman Steve Colella was due to meet with Worcestershire County Council officials today (Friday) for showdown talks following ill-fated road alterations in the village.

It follows a barrage of angry complaints from residents over the introduction of new road markings at the junction with Kidderminster and Worcester Road.

Residents have already seen an increase in the number of collisions and Mr Colella said: "We've already had one or two that have been quite significant. It's an accident waiting to happen.

"I have been overwhelmed by the number of complaints I've received, it's a list as long as your arm.

"We expressed our fears when we first the saw plans - but these were totally ignored."

Cllr Colella said he was planning to speak with Worcestershire County Council's highways safety officer Mark Brown to see what measures could be taken to make the junction less dangerous and he added: "Apart from the dangerous aspect, the new markings have caused considerable congestion and we've already seen queues all the way back to Blakedown.

"This has happened over a period where the traffic has been lighter with schools off and less people at work.

"We've also had complaints about the pelican crossing and the duration of time allowed for people to cross.

"Also the brightness of the lights has become an issue, which has caused some nearby residents to move their children's bedrooms as a result.

"All this could have been avoided if we had been listened to at the time."
