HAGLEY Rambler Scouts will be out in force later this month for a fundraising event which they hope will lead to a refurbished home.

A family fun day is being held at historic Hagley Hall on Sunday June 28 and scout leaders hope to pack the place out.

Group treasurer Alison Akers said: "Our existing hut is coming to the end of its useful life and we've been told it has approximately five years left before it needs replacing.

"We are looking to generate funds to help rebuild the hut, which is in huge demand.

"At the moment, we have 121 children and over 34 adults who use the hut every week - and that doesn't include the 2nd Hagley Guide section.

"We've already got at least 36 children on the waiting list and that will only get longer due to the current housing development taking place in Hagley.

"We know the demand is higher, but some parents don't bother putting their children on the current waiting list owing to the length of it."

All proceeds from the fun day will go towards refurbishing the existing hut and organisers have arranged plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained.

Visitors will be able to explore the 18th century grounds around Hagley Hall prior to the park's official reopening later this year following considerable restoration work.

Another major feature of the fun event will be performances by a Viking re-enactment group which will be showcasing crafts such as metalworking and woodcarving.

There will also be some fighting with audience participation, plus plenty of children's activities including a quiz trail, craft area, facepainting and a bouncy castle.

Organisers are also using the event as an attempt to raise the profile of the Rambler Scouts.
