PUPILS at a Kingswinford school will soon be taking their learning outdoors after receiving a grant of £9,971.

The funds Crestwood Park Primary School received from the Big Lottery Fund's Awards for All programme, which offers grants between £300 and £10,000 to projects that aid local communities, will be used to construct an outdoor classroom.

Additional shelter to provide shade for the children during the summer months will also be put up on the key stage one playground.

Deputy headteacher, Nikki Perry, said: "We are looking to grow flowering creepers over the shelters, which our Make a Difference Club will look after and we will attach water butts to the shelters so that we can recycle water and the children will be more aware about looking after the environment."

She added that the school was thrilled to have received the funding: "There are some projects that are too much for the school to fund so it is useful to have something like this to apply for."

The work will start in early January.
