A DISQUALIFIED driver from Kingswinford who took her husband's car after an argument and then crashed into another vehicle, has been jailed for 14 months.

When police officers went to the scene of the minor collision they found over £1,200 worth of cannabis and a quantity of steroids inside the car, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

Emma Gwilliams, who was subject to a suspended prison sentence at the time for other motoring offences was "bored with her routine life," said Nicole Steers, defending.

She said Gwilliams, aged 35, felt as if she was "trapped" and of little value and that had lead to her drinking excessively because she could "no longer cope with the situation she faced."

Miss Steers said Gwilliams' alcohol issues had clearly impacted on her behaviour adding, "She had an argument with her husband, she got annoyed and left in the vehicle."

But she maintained that Gwilliams whose previous convictions included taking a vehicle without consent was now alcohol free "for the first time in a long time".

Gwilliams, of Standhills Road, admitted aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified, without insurance, possessing cannabis with intent to supply and possessing the steroids.

Recorder Anthony Potter said her husband had bought the vehicle just 24 hours earlier to assist a family member and after driving off she had been involved in the minor collision.

The police attended and quickly discovered she was banned from driving and also found six bags containing cannabis in the vehicle together with 77 tablets of the class C drug.

The recorder told her: "These offences are made worse because at the time you were the subject of the suspended prison sentence imposed at this court in April 2013."

He said he accepted Gwilliams clearly had difficulties in her life and "felt she was unwanted" but she had been given a great deal of assistance since her last court appearance.

The recorder jailed Gwilliams for seven months for the offences before the court and ruled she should serve an additional seven months for breaching the suspended prison sentence, which she also admitted.

He also disqualified her from driving for 18 months.
