Kingswinford Townswomen's Guild

The guild met on February 9 in Kingswinford Community Centre. Numbers were lower than usual due mainly to illness. This was a pity, as the speaker for the evening was especially interesting. The subject of Mary Bodfish’s talk was "you can’t abdicate and eat it".

We were held enthralled as a the picture of a twentieth century crisis was unfold ,step by step before us. To say more would spoil the talk for any other group wishing to hear it.

Chairman Enid Fennell announced that when the proceeds from the Christmas Card collection were added to our charity fund we were able to send £140 to Sandilands Methodist Church in Cumbria. Now that the floods have subsided, there is still a great deal of work to do in making homes habitable and offering comfort and consolation to people at this time, and it will prove to be necessary for a long time to come. The church is coordinating this work with the assistance of all sorts of volunteers .

The leaders of the various sections gave notice of their forthcoming events. There will be no Wednesday club meeting in February, but the March meeting, on March 16 will be an open evening , when non guild members will be very welcome to attend. On this occasion we will see demonstrations of handmade jewellery making by Two Sister s Jewellery. It should be a fascinating evening.

The Federation Report was read in full by Joyce Robins. Members were reminded that annual subs were now due.

The flowers for the chairman’s table were provided by Brenda Greenaway, who kindly donated them as an extra raffle prize. She then went on to win one of the prizes. The other winners were, Sue Wilson, Chris Grove and Ann Rogers. Kath turner and Chris Groves offered to wash up. The March meeting is the AGM which is actually a good time to visit as prospective members can get a good overview of the general activities.
