IMMIGRATION to the EU budget were just some of the topics raised during a question and answer session in Kingswinford regarding the forthcoming European referendum.

Questions about trade, security and bureaucracy were also on the agenda during the public meeting at Kingswinford Community Centre, which was organised by the Conservative MEP for the West Midlands Anthea McIntyre.

Miss McIntyre arranged the meeting as she believes voters feel short of “simple and reliable information” as both sides in the referendum debate “bombard them with contradictory messages”.

The event was part of series of events across the region aimed at giving impartial information on the pros and cons of Britain's membership of the European Union.

After the meeting, Miss McIntyre said: “There was a real appetite for more first-hand information so that people can make up their minds in this hugely important vote.

“We had a real cross-section of voters of different ages and with different viewpoints, but I think they all appreciated our attempt to offer clarity, more information and a less confrontational approach.

“I have held a series of these meetings and I always try to be as unbiased as possible. When I give information I say where it was sourced and when I give an opinion I clearly say that's what it is.”
