TWO lucky residents from Kingswinford have had a weekend to remember after each winning £25,000 in a People’s Postcode Lottery draw.

Standhills Road residents Andrew Smith and Karen Salmon have been named as winners of this weekend’s Saturday Street Prize after their postcode DY6 8DN was drawn.

Andrew, a shift manager for Cadbury, was shocked when he received a visit from People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt, who stopped by to present him with his whopping cheque.

The 46-year-old said: “I was chuffed to bits when Judie turned up at my door. I don’t usually win anything and £25,000 is a lot of money.

“Now I think we’re going to book to go to Disney in Florida next year. We took the kids six years ago and never thought we could take them back – this has helped a lot.

“I haven’t seen my other neighbours to tell them about my prize yet – but if I meet anyone that doesn’t play People’s Postcode Lottery, I’ll certainly be telling them to play.”

Judie said: “I loved putting the ‘win’ in Kingswinford this week.

“Andrew was absolutely over the moon to find out he’d won £25,000. There’s nothing better than meeting our lucky players and seeing their faces when I hand over the cheques. I hope his family have a lovely time in Florida.”

As a charity lottery, players have raised over £104.2 million for good causes across Great Britain and internationally.

Karen, 57, who also scooped the £25,000, said: “I signed up to play after my neighbour, who is also my hairdresser, recommended it. Now that I've won I think I'll sign up to play with two tickets so that I'll double my win next time.

“My husband Norman loves to play golf so we'll probably go on holiday to Portugal so he can play a few rounds there while I lie at the pool.

“I have a daughter and two sons who will get a little something. One of my sons lives in Australia and he's asked me to come over, but I won't fly that far.

“I've promised to take my friends out for a meal to celebrate and then I'll treat myself to new carpets.”
