CCTV images of two men who are linked with the mugging an elderly disabled man in Kingswinford have been released.

Police are calling for help in identifying the two men who were seen taking £250 from Wall Heath man Brian Shaw, 76, on Saturday April 2.

Mr Shaw, who suffers from dementia, was targeted by the thieves after they stopped him in an alleyway in Market Street at about 2pm.

The men showed him a map and asked for directions and, while he was distracted, stole £250 from his pocket.

PC Paul Bunford, from Dudley Police, said: “We want people to come forward and tell us if they recognise these two men.

“They deliberately approached the man, who was elderly and vulnerable.”

Mr Shaw’s daughter told the News that her father was “really distressed” following the mugging, and was scared to go out on his own.

She said: “My dad is so upset about it and it really shook both him and my mum. You don’t expect anything like that to happen, especially as it was in broad daylight at lunchtime on a Saturday with so many people around.

“All he went out to do was to get a bag of chips.

“One of the worst things is that, apart from the money which was taken, the wallet contained his Stroke Association card and he is scared that the muggers now have his address.

“We need to make sure people, especially those who are elderly and disabled, are aware of these things going on in our towns and to be more alert.”

Anyone who recognises either of the men in the CCTV images are urged to contact PC Bunford on 101 ext 851 6351.
