GENEROUS fundraisers turned their curries into cash as they supported a Kingswinford children’s charity.

More than £1,300 can now be donated to More Mascots Please CIC, which aims to improve the lives of disabled, disadvantaged and terminally ill children based in the Black Country, following a charity curry night at Stourbridge’s Indiluxe restaurant.

Ceri Davies, the charity’s managing director, said: “It was an amazing night and so much fun.

“The staff at Indiluxe are absolutely wonderful and it was such a funny evening. It wouldn’t have been the same without their support.

“We had a three course meal, with a starter, main and pudding. Together with a charity raffle, auction and amazing bhangra dancers, we were able to raise a massive £1,325 for More Mascots Please.

“All of the people that attended, and there was over 60, had a fantastic time. We were also joined by Free Radio DJ Ed Nell, who was a brilliant host.

“I’d like to thank everybody who came for raising the much needed funds.”

Restaurant owner Hamdu Miah said: “I’m delighted with how well it went. Our customers really enjoy getting together at Indiluxe to eat good food and be entertained, whilst also helping a fantastic charity in the process.”

More Mascots Please was formed by Ceri in 2009 to offer support to children across the region who are disadvantaged, disabled or terminally ill.

In 2013 the group became a registered charity and in that time has managed to raise more than £13,000 for local children, as well as running play schemes for severely disabled children.

Ceri said: “We give out individual gifts to the children but, with the help of our mascots, our main aim is to make children smile.

“Throughout the year and especially during the Christmas period we go into children’s wards at the local hospitals and give the children toys and party bags.

“We have helped more than 90 children in the West Midlands, and this year we will be helping out our 100th child.”

More Mascots Please will get an added boost this year as they receive a share of the Mayor of Dudley’s annual mayoral fundraising, alongside four other local causes.

Ceri added: “We are very grateful to the wonderful mayor, Cllr Steve Waltho, for choosing us as one of his five charities.

“He is hoping to raise more than £50,000, so a share of that is going to help our work enormously.”

The charity’s next fundraising event – a psychic night at the Samson and Lion pub in Wordsley – is set to be held in August.
