KINGSWINFORD Methodist Church is celebrating its 50th birthday with a flower festival and concert later this month.

The festival will run at the Stream Road church from Friday June 17 to Sunday June 19 and the concert – featuring Jean Martyn of Britain’s Got Talent fame – will take place on Saturday June 18, starting at 7.30pm.

The Sunday services on June 19 will be taken by Dr Jocelyn Bryan, a former Sunday School scholar and lecturer at Durham University.

A host of other events have also been lined up throughout the summer to commemorate the church’s milestone anniversary including a performance by singers and musicians Welcome to Worship on Sunday June 26, a car treasure hunt on Saturday July 2, a concert by the Gwynn School of Dance on Saturday July 16, a concert by the BJ Concert Band on Saturday July 30 and a barn dance on Saturday August 20.

Money raised from the celebratory events will go towards refurbishing the premises which are used regularly by a variety of groups.

Tickets for the concert with Jean Martyn cost £10 and are available on 01384 838863 or on the door.
