A KIND-HEARTED Kingswinford schoolgirl is getting set to have her long locks chopped off for charity.

Neve Nicholls, a student at The Kingswinford School in Water Street, is hoping to raise as much money as she can for The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust's neo natal unit by getting sponsored to have 10 to 12 inches of her flowing, dark mane cut off.

The gutsy 11-year-old, who has grown her hair long since she was about five, is also planning to donate her long brunette locks to the Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs to young cancer patients suffering hair loss, after having it cut off at Little Oasis hair salon, Wordsley, on Saturday January 14 at 11.30am.

Neve's mum Kerrie Nicholls said: "I'm really proud of her. She loves her hair. She's never liked having it cut but she's pleased she's doing this and that her hair's going to be donated to charity."

Family and friends are sponsoring Neve in her endeavour and so far she's raised more than £200 on an online donation page but she's hoping to raise more over the coming days.

Her proud nan Mary Morgan said the neonatal unit which Neve is fundraising for is close to the family's hearts as it cared for a relative's baby son who was born prematurely and tragically died aged just five weeks old.
