MORE than 100 pupils at The Kingswinford School have been using sport to support fundraising for facilities at their campus.
The Water Street school hosted an after school football tournament on the Monday October 19 to raise cash for their school’s Kingswinford Association.
The association, which has helped provide improvements including picnic benches and contributions for a new school minibus, sponsors the school’s football league which is one of a range of sporting activities available to pupils.
Simon Baggott, the school’s specialist coach and sports centre manager, said: “Students are now deciding to voluntarily remain at school, after the school day ends, to join one of the many clubs the school has to offer.
“Studies have shown that students who are healthy and active can perform academically better in class.”
The tournament, which featured teams with names including The Ketchup Kids, The Curry Munchers and The Green Army, was won by a side called AC Milan, who beat a mixed group of year nine students called The Pensioners.
Kingswinford Association chairperson, Pauline Carpenter, said: “We are a very friendly team, who have fun and work hard to raise funds to enhance the education of the students at the Kingswinford School.”
