A MAJOR investment programme that will see miles of old metal gas pipes replaced in Kinver, began today (Monday).

Temporary traffic lights will be in place at the junction of The Compa and Comber Road and along Compton Road, at the junction of Forest Drive, for approximately four weeks.

In mid-November, the work will move along Comber Road, to the junction of Astles Rock Walk, where temporary traffic lights will be in place for a further three weeks.

National Grid is replacing the old metal gas mains with modern plastic pipes that do not corrode and need little or no maintenance.

Stephen Murray, National Grid spokesman, said: “We’re sorry for the disruption our work in Kinver is likely to cause. Throughout the project, we’ll be doing everything we can to keep the inconvenience to a minimum.

"Once the work is completed, however, those who live and work in Kinver will enjoy the benefit of a gas supply that’s guaranteed to be reliable for very many years to come.”
