VISITORS to Kinver Edge should not be alarmed if they see trees being felled at the beauty spot over the next two months.
Hundreds of trees, mostly planted conifers, will be cut down as part of the management plan to return the area to lowland heath, which will allow rare species to survive and flourish.
Alex Morley, countryside manager, said: “Many visitors to Kinver Edge assume that the woodland has been here for hundreds of years, but it actually dates back less than a century and the heathland we’re working to restore is a much rarer habitat.
“We’ve been working with Natural England for a number of years to conserve this important area and the current tree felling project is all part of the land management plan.
"We’ll only fell trees from October to March so as not to disturb the bird population and any areas of biological importance or landscape value will be left untouched.”
