RAILINGS surrounding the war memorial at Kinver Edge have been replaced as part of the village's commemoration of the centenary of the First World War.

Kinver Parish Council spent £2,500 replacing the rusted railings earlier this year and held a re-dedication service on Sunday (August 3).

Rev Karen Stanton, rector of Kinver and Enville, led the service, which was attended by the Royal British Legion, councillors, residents and community organisations.

A parade was led by the Air Training Corps Kingswinford band and the crucifer and choir from St Peter’s Church.

Councillor Rachel Davis, chairman of Kinver Parish Council, said: "Kinver Parish Council has replaced the old railings for those who lost their lives in this conflict and also for those who have died in the service of their country since that time.

"We hope that the memorial will continue to stand as a reminder of the sacrifices made by our armed forces, both past and present."
