WHAT began as something of a whim has turned out to be a real winner for Kinver folk this Christmas.

It started when web designer Andy Calloway conjured up the idea of a photographic competition.

He invited people through Facebook to submit their scenic pictures of Kinver and then vote for the best ones.

Andy was overwhelmed by the response as 70 people sent entries and more than 1,000 people voted.

Now Andy has taken the top 12 entries and turned them into an A4 calendar which is currently selling like hot cakes.

He said: "I initially ordered a limited run of 50 calendars - but by the following day I'd already received 83 orders.

"I've had to keep going back to the printers to the point where I've now sold 200."

All proceeds from the calendar will be donated to Potters Cross Playgroup.

Andy added: "I posted a photo onto Kinver Past and Present, but I didn't really expect the idea to take off.

"It's great that I can help the playgroup as both my children have gone there. They've had their funding cut so the money will be most welcome.

"It's the first time I've ever done a calendar, but it has gone down so well, I see no reason why it shouldn't become an annual event, although next time, I'll start the competition earlier."
