IT was jingle, jingle all the way for this year's Kinver Rotary Club's Christmas sleigh.

This year's sleigh raised a record amount of £6,700 and now takes the overall total past the magic £100,000 mark.

The amount of money raised has steadily increased ever since the sleigh first hit the streets of Kinver, Stourton and Enville back in 1985.

Over the year's the sleigh's popularity has continued to increase to the point where it now visits Wollaston and Wall Heath, along with local schools, supermarkets and shopping centres.

It even features at the annual Mary Stevens Hospice Santa Jog in Stourbridge.

Rotary Club spokesman Mike Deathridge said: "The amount of money the sleigh has raised has gone up year on year - despite the recent difficult financial climate.

"We really appreciate the generosity of local people because the sleigh is always well received wherever it goes."

He continued: "Obviously things are very different to when we first started running the sleigh. We didn't get any £1 coins in those days for instance and we didn't do as many routes.

"But now the sleigh has become firmly established on the Kinver village Christmas scene and people really look forward to it.

"The fact that we've enjoyed another record year only shows how generous people have been again."

Club President Roger Stephenson added: "I would like to express my thanks to all the Rotarians and their helpers who turned out in greater numbers than ever, sometimes in extremely wet conditions, to ensure all the routes were completed by 9pm."

The cash raised will be donated to local charities.
