PUPILS from a Kinver junior school had some time out from their usual timetable recently as they took part in a team challenge day.

More than 215 students from Brindley Heath Junior School visited outdoor education providers A Sporting Chance, based on the grounds of Wolverley CE Secondary School, in Wyre Forest.

Throughout the day, the pupils were encouraged to embrace the outdoors and engage in activities that would develop both their ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Jason Willetts, headteacher, said he was delighted with how the day went, adding: ““We had a fantastic team building day at Wolverley where all children took part in a broad range of engaging outdoor learning experiences.

“It enabled children to further develop their social skills as well as developing focus, concentration, perseverance and self-reflection. It was a memorable day for both pupils and staff.”

Many of the activities were completely new for the students and included mountain biking, trampolining, archery, orienteering and skiing on Wolverley’s dry ski slope.

Children also developed skills they wouldn’t learn in the classroom, such as outdoor cooking, shelter building, fire lighting and bushcraft.

Bryn Thomas, headteacher at Wolverley CE Secondary School, said: “We were delighted with the way the students engaged in all the activities and were impressed with how determined they were to succeed in everything they did.

“With students enjoying the beautiful weather and glorious surroundings, a brilliant day was had by all.”

To enable every child at the school to benefit from the activities, Brindley Heath’s Parent Teacher Association subsidised the cost.
