KINVER quizzers raised close on £3,000 for Children in Need after their annual competition hosted by BBC voiceover star Alan Dedicoat.

Nicknamed the 'Voice of the Balls', Alan has been hosting a quiz at the KSCA in Kinver for the past 15 years.

Renowned for being the voice behind the National Lottery and Strictly Come Dancing programmes, he has helped raise more than £15,000 for Children in Need from his Kinver quizzes alone.

This year's event, organised through Kinver Rotary Club, raised £1,256.

It was boosted further by Kinver Rotarian Clive Corbett with £1,250 raised by pupils at Pershore High School where he is headteacher.

Another £400 came from Goldthorne Park School, Wolverhampton, through headteacher Julia Roseblade, who is the wife of past president Clive Roseblade.

Alan Dedicoat is now involved in a series of quizzes, which take place across the country, but Kinver remains the most profitable.

He has also vowed to continue with the Kinver quiz, even though he no longer works in the BBC Radio 2 Newsroom.
