THE Mayor of Dudley has praised a Lye-based charity for its excellent community work.

Volunteers from the Apni Zaroorat Community Network were presented with signed certificates from Councillor Alan Finch at the Mayor’s parlour last week.

The group, based at Lye Community Centre, strives to improve the quality of lives for women, young people and families by reducing isolation, encouraging active participation and providing information and support.

The group targets social needs and builds skills and confidence through themed events and activities.

Asima Khalid, chief executive and volunteer at the network, said: “We formed to make sure the community comes together as one and offer projects and events to bring people together in the Lye area.

“We are very grateful to the Mayor of Dudley for his support and we look forward to more successes in the future.”

Cllr Finch said: “It was a pleasure to invite the volunteers from the Apni Zaroorat Community Network into the parlour to present the certificates and find out more about the work they carry out.

“Their efforts over the last six years have been fantastic and I’m sure they will continue this excellent community work for many more years to come.”
