WORKMEN on a building site in Lye got more than they bargained for when they unearthed a suspected unexploded bomb this morning.

The device, possibly of Second World War vintage, was found in Engine Lane at around 10.30am and prompted the call out of bomb disposal experts.

Seven homes nearby were evacuated and roads in the area closed while the team of experts moved in.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said the device has since been taken away and the roads re-opened.

The discovery also affected trains in the area – causing delays on the railway of up to 30 minutes between Stourbridge Junction and Rowley Regis.
