A FLY-TIPPER has been given a suspended jail sentence and ordered to pay £540 after dumping rubbish in Stourbridge.
Gerry Flynn, aged 36, admitted dumping rubbish on land off Pedmore Lane when he appeared at Dudley Magistrates Court on Wednesday (October 2).
Flynn, of Claycroft Place, Lye, admitted the offence and magistrates sentenced him to 12 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months.
He was also given a 12-month supervision order and ordered to pay £390 costs and £150 compensation to the land owner.
The case went to court after Dudley Council received a report of fly-tipping in May last year.
Enforcement officers traced the waste back to an address in Stourbridge where the owner said she’d paid Flynn £30 to remove garden waste and cardboard boxes from her home.
Councillor Tracy Wood, Dudley’s cabinet member for environment and culture, said the case sends a “clear message” to people that if they dump rubbish in Dudley borough they will be caught and prosecuted.
She added: “I would also warn people against paying others to take their waste without the correct licence and accreditation.”
