A LYE youngster will be getting in the fundraising spirit tomorrow (Friday, March 13) as she attempts a daring walk to school in aid of Comic Relief.

As part of this year’s Red Nose Day, seven-year-old Carly Wilton will be walking all the way from her home in Cemetery Road to Ham Dingle Primary School, in Pedmore, backwards.

Ellie Philpotts, Carly’s mum, said: “It is a great personal achievement for Carly and an inspiration to others to get involved in helping to better lives.

“I also believe it is encouraging a healthier way of getting to school - usually walking forwards though, not backwards.”

Carly has been walking the 1.5 miles to school for the last three months and she even said that she has begun to enjoy it as her legs no longer get tired.

For safety purposes Ellie will be facing forwards holding her hand every step of the way and Carly will also have the support of her aunt and grandparent during the walk for extra support.

UPDATE - Carly braved the morning rain and made it all the way from her home to the school gates backwards.

Ellie said: "She has exceeded two huge targets with fantastic support. Her inspiring happy smile kept our spirits high and she only said "it would be easier forwards" as she continued with her challenge.

"She walked the whole way backwards and was even on time for school."
