A MEMBER of the Scudamore horse racing dynasty is the latest star to be appointed as an ambassador for Lye’s Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.

Racehorse trainer Michael Scudamore will use his star status in the equestrian world to raise awareness of the lifesaving work of the charity.

The Dudley Road charity has a long tradition of supporting horse racing, and has become a familiar sight at the Cheltenham Festival and racecourse each year.

Mr Scudamore said: “It is an honour and a great privilege to be able to support the valuable work of the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity and to help raise awareness to the wider public and the horse racing community.

“The equestrian world in its many forms and disciplines are incredibly indebted to the work of the air ambulance, its pilots, paramedics and doctors who provide lifesaving emergency medical care.”

He joins an ever-growing list of names from the worlds of sport and entertainment that have become honorary ambassadors, which includes former Top Gear TV presenter Richard Hammond, Only Fools and Horses actor John Challis and Rugby World Cup winner Mike Tindall MBE.

Hanna Sebright, charity chief executive, said: “We are privileged to have the support of such an important name in horse racing.

“I am delighted that Michael Scudamore and the Scudamore family have been so kind in agreeing to help raise awareness and support so that we can continue providing a vital lifesaving service.”

Each year the charity has to raise £6.5million to keep its three helicopters airborne to deal with the 2,000 emergency incidents it responds to.
