LYE'S Midlands Air Ambulance Charity wants to hear from anyone who has been involved with the organisation since its formation in 1991.

The charity wants former volunteers, fundraisers, employees and anyone airlifted by the airborne ambulance to get in touch as preparations are made for the organisation's 25th anniversary celebrations.

Originally called 'Air 5', the charity was launched on May 21, 1991, at Hagley Hall.

Later that year, Air 5 moved its base to RAF Cosford in Shropshire, which has remained its operational hub ever since.

The organisation changed its name to the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity in 2009 with a view to increasing its affiliation between the service and the communities which it serves.

Since its formation, the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity has responded to 43,000 missions and now operates from three airbases situated across the Midlands.

Jason Levy, fundraising and marketing director for the charity, said: "We want to acknowledge the people who have supported the charity over the years.

"With no government or National Lottery funding, our lifesaving service has only remained operational thanks to the hard work and generosity of everyone who has been involved."

Anyone involved with the charity can call 0800 840 2040 or email press@midlandsairambulance.com to join in the anniversary celebrations.
