A CHARITY cricket fun day is set to be held in Lye in memory of former youth coach Bernard Moody.

The event this Sunday (August 28) will raise money for the British Heart Foundation in honour of Bernard, who passed away when he was aged just 50 due to a heart attack.

As well as a six-a-side cricket tournament, the event – organised by members of Bernard’s family – will also feature an auction, raffle, bouncy castle, a barbecue and a bar.

Matthew Moody, Bernard’s son, said: “It’s hard to believe that this year is the 20th anniversary since our dad passed away.

“When he passed away, I was just 16 and Claire 18 and it left a massive void in our lives. Sadly he never got to see us grow up into adults, or meet his two beautiful grandchildren.

“Dad was a keen cricket fan, playing at a good level in his younger years and eventually coaching under 13s to 16s at Lye Cricket Club.

“In honour of his memory, we are organising a charity cricket fun day to raise money for British Heart Foundation.

“We hope that all of his friends and family will join us in remembering him, whilst raising money for such a great charity.”

The cricket fun day takes place at Lye Cricket Club from 11am this Sunday.
