LYE Town boss Martin Thomas is unsure what to expect when his team face Midlands League new boys St Andrews on Saturday.

Town’s co-manager said he “knows nothing” about the side which was promoted out of the East Midlands Counties league last season.

He said: “They’ve come into the league this year and have had some good results. They’ve beaten Shepshed, drawn with Alvechurch, so we know they are going to be a decent side.”

Thomas is hoping his team put in a better performance than their home tie against Stourport Swifts on Saturday – even though the game finished 2-0 to Lye.

Thomas said: “It wasn’t the best game, but it was a good two nil win at the end of the day.

“We didn’t play great and we’re going to have games where we play a lot better and lose, but we got the win and that’s what matters.

“Both teams had chances in the first half, and we got the opener from an own goal before Ben Jeavons scored a brilliant goal just before half time which killed the game off.

“We might as well have not bothered playing the second half because there were little chances for both teams.

“It was a game that won’t live long in the memory but we got the three points and now we’re looking ahead to the next game, where we will need to step up a gear.”

Town go into Saturday’s game (3pm) with Kalum Evitts as the only man missing, while the team has also been boosted with the return of former striker James Spray who has re-signed from Alvechurch.

Lye also face an away trip to Coventry United next Tuesday evening (7.45pm).
