LYE finally picked up a cup win this week after taking the spoils 3-1 against Heath Hayes on a wet and blustery Tuesday night.

After cruising 2-0 in the home League Cup tie, Hayes managed to pull a goal back before Town’s new singing Luke Paskin, who joined from Alvechurch over the weekend, put the game beyond doubt midway through the second half.

The win made it three on the bounce for an in-form Town side, who came home with a 3-0 midlands League victory against Shawbury United on Saturday.

Co-manager Martin Thomas said: “Shawbury away could have been a difficult game as it’s never easy playing in another team’s back yard in this league, but we’ve gone away twice in the past two weeks and picked up the three points.

“In the first half we were awful, but a few home truths came out in the dressing room at half time and the lads came out in the second half and played like we expect them to.

“On Tuesday night the weather was horrible and a potential banana skin, but we had a point to prove after they knocked us out the JW Hunt cup earlier in the season.

“We went two nil up and it should have been more as we were in control of the game, but a lack of concentration saw them get back into it.

“I’ve been saying we’re not a cup team, so it was good that the lads were able dig in and get the third goal which killed the game off and got us through to the next round.

“We had a couple of starters out so it gave us the chance to play a couple of young lads. Dominic Hipkiss who was in the youth team last season got on for his debut and played very well.

“We also got Luke Paskin signed and he got the third goal on Tuesday night, so having Luke will be a big bonus to the team.

“We’ve been drawn against Alvechurch or Westfields in the next round so should be a cracking tie whoever we get.”

The Stourbridge Road side go into Saturday’s home league game with bottom of the table Brocton missing Adam Meacham (suspended), Ben Jeavons (work commitments), and Kalum Evitts (injury).

Thomas added: “Brocton might be bottom of the league but they’re going to beat somebody and we’ve just got to make sure that it isn’t us.

“Every team in this league is competitive so we’ve got to stick to our game plan and can’t afford to slip below the bar.”
