LYE Town boss Martin Thomas expects Coventry Sphinx to go all out against his side when they face off this weekend.

Town’s co-manager said there is “no love lost” between the two sides following the Stourbridge Road outfit’s 5-0 Midlands League win earlier this season.

Thomas, who manages the team alongside Darren Goodall, said: “First and foremost we need to hope the game is on. We were lucky last week and the groundsman worked hard to get us some sort of pitch to play on.

“But there’s no love lost between the two teams. The game at our place saw them have a player sent off early doors and we went on to win 5-0, so they’re going to want to get back at us.”

Lye remain second in the table following a 3-0 victory at home to Shepshed Dynamo on Saturday, with results leaving them five points behind leaders Alvechurch, but with three games in hand.

“Without blowing our own trumpet, it was a pretty comfortable game,” Thomas said. “We scored within two minutes, got a deserved penalty and even hit the post twice.

“Some very nice football was played by both teams on a bad pitch, but we know which areas we can get the ball down to play on and they didn’t.

“It was a good result against a half decent side, but Shepshed didn’t play as well as we expected which did make it easier for us.”

With no injury worries, Lye head to Coventry on Saturday (3pm kick off) only missing Kallum Evitts who was back in training this week after being out of the frame since September.

Thomas added: “Kallum is going to take another three or four sessions before we think about what he can do to get some game time.

“We’d be open to sending him out on loan for a couple of games to get his match fitness up, but the decision has to be completely up to him.”
