LYE boss Martin Thomas hopes new faces will be the answer to his team's shooting problems after missed chances proved costly this week.

The Stourbridge Road side drew 1-1 away at Quorn on Tuesday night following a 4-0 defeat at Heanor Town last Wednesday.

But Thomas said the results were not a fair reflection on the Midland League games, adding his players "dominated" in both matches, but paid the price for poor finishing.

The joint-manager, who hinted at introducing "financial penalties" if his players do not find their shooting boots, said: "We've had so many chances over the two games and only scored one goal. It's unbelievable.

"We got to the Heanor game late because of traffic and we were just not at it for the first 15 minutes and they managed to get three goals.

"But we should have got at least a draw. Their keeper made some blinding saves but we just couldn't bury our chances.

"It was the same story on Tuesday night. We should have been 5-1 up by half time but our shots didn't trouble their keeper. Out shooting was better in the second half but then the keeper pulled off a number of great saves.

"In training on Thursday night we will be drilling them on hitting the target. Anyone can hit a ball well, but they need to start testing the keeper to give us a chance.

"But if we do start converting our chances, then god help the teams we've got left to play."

A new look Town side, who will be missing James Spray – after his move to fellow Premier Division club Walsall Wood – and Ben Jeavons through injury, face a trip to Stourport Swifts on Saturday and Coventry Sphinx on Wednesday.

Thomas added: "James Spray's gone, but we've been looking at bringing in a couple of lads and are already talking to some.

"We're hopeful of getting a few new faces in before Saturday, but whether we will be able to sign them before the deadline, time will tell."
