A HISTORIC sundial which went missing from Stourbridge town centre in the 1970s is set to be unveiled at its new home in Mary Stevens Park.

The sundial became damaged before disappearing from the town, but it has since been found and repaired.

Members of the local community, the park’s friends group and councillors are joining together on Monday (October 10) see the new piece which is set to be unveiled in the café’s tea gardens at 4.30pm.

The sundial unveiling is part of a programme of £3.1 million improvements to the park which followed a £2.6 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Other recent improvements to the park include work to the park gates, war memorial, bandstand and Heath pool as well as the creation of a new cafe and toilet facilities.

Councillor Hilary Bills, cabinet member for environmental services, said: “We’re delighted to see the sundial in place and it marks a final stage in the huge programme of improvements that we’ve made at the park.”

Members of the public are also being invited to join the unveiling ceremony.
