A GRUELLING charity battle ropes challenge has raised nearly £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Alex Reason, chief instructor at Dan Woodruff's Academy Martial Arts, Bagley Street, Stambermill, staged the 'Battle Cancer - Battle Rope Challenge' (round two) in Mary Stevens Park on September 17).

The 33-year-old from Brierley Hill roped in students from the academy and members of the public to take part in the challenge of keeping two ‘battle ropes’ moving continuously for two hours.

Alex, from Brierley Hill, said: “We successfully managed to keep all four ropes moving and we had over 100 people take part from our school and people from the public, aged three to 70-plus."

Stourbridge News:

The stunt raised £1,932 in total for Macmillan which Alex from Brierley Hill was keen to support - having lost relatives to cancer.

It’s the second time he’s staged such an event. Last year’s raised around £700 for the charity but this year’s stunt brought in more than double that and nearly twice the target amount of £1,000.

Alex said: “Everyone loved it - saying they were so glad they took part and can’t wait for round three next year."
