THE changing face of Stourbridge Lawn Tennis and Squash Club is rapidly taking shape following a £350,000 refurbishment programme.

Work on the improvements is set to be completed this month with an official opening date set for December 1.

An extension programme has seen the existing gym extended, additional disabled facilities and the creation of a new bag room.

But the highlight will feature an extended glass balcony which will stretch the entire length of the club.

Spokesman Phil Davis said: “When the refurbishment is completed, we will have the finest facilities for miles around.

“It’s the first major redevelopment of the club in 40 years and when everything comes together, it should look fantastic.

“The gym is already up and running. Hopefully when the rest of the work is completed it will help us from a sporting prospective to attract more members to the club.

“We’re one of Stourbridge’s best kept secrets, hidden away in Sugar Loaf Lane, but the objective of this work will hopefully raise the profile of the club much further”.

Already the club comprises of 14 all weather tennis courts, but they also have a thriving squash and racketball section with a further six indoor courts at their disposal.

They have just spent £40,000 upgrading some of their tennis courts.

As a result, they now host major competitions for Staffordshire, Worcestershire and West Midlands LTA.

The club also operates a massive 40 strong leagues in racketball and squash.
