A NORTON businesswoman believes local shop owners should pull together to keep the momentum of Small Business Saturday going.

Tej Ghag, owner of hair removal specialist Tej & Co, was chosen to represent the region as part of the national campaign to encourage people to shop locally.

She was one off 100 businesses invited to a reception at Downing Street as part of the celebrations, where she was able to network with other business owners and meet "inspirational businesswoman" Karren Brady.

To celebrate Small Business Saturday on December 6, Mrs Ghag, aged 46, welcomed Stourbridge MP Margot James to her salon on South Road.

Ms James β€œIt was great to meet Tej and see the wonderful salon she has built up, and I am so proud to have had a Stourbridge company represent our region for Small Business Saturday.

"It is brilliant that the extra support recently announced by the Chancellor, like more business rate relief, extending the Funding for Lending scheme, and increasing R&D tax credits, will go to help small businesses in Stourbridge like this.”

Mrs Ghag said being part of the campaign had not only been an enjoyable experience but gave her ideas to develop her business.

She added: "I think small businesses need to support each other to get people to shop locally and to give back to the community.

"It's amazing how many customers overlap so we should promote each others businesses."
