AN EYEWITNESS has described the scene of an incident which saw a woman in her 60s seriously injured after colliding with a car in Stourbridge this morning.

The incident happened near the Co-operative supermarket on The Broadway, Norton, at just before 11.45am, leading to the busy road being sealed off by police from near Gig Mill Primary School to the junction with Windsor Road.

The Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford landed on playing fields off The Broadway but the woman, who suffered a fractured leg and head injuries, was taken to hospital by land ambulance.

Melanie Cooper, aged 56, of Sion Hill, Kidderminster, who works as a carer in the Norton area, came across the scene at about 11.55am.

She said: "A man with a high visibility jacket was stopping traffic by the school and I could hear screaming coming from up the road.

"He told me that an elderly woman had come out of the flats on the opposite side of the road from the shops in the Broadway.

"She had been wearing a hood because it was raining and was knocked over after stepping into the road. I hope she's going to be all right."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “A pedestrian was treated for her injuries following a collision with a car in Stourbridge this morning.

“The woman in her sixties was treated for a fractured leg and head lacerations.

“She was given pain relief and placed on an orthopaedic stretcher before being taken by land ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further assessment and treatment.

“The male driver of the car was uninjured.”
