A POPULAR golfer died after collapsing on the 18th hole at Stourbridge Golf Club.

Michael Massey, aged 67, of Whittington Road, Norton, suffered a cardiac arrest while playing at the Worcester Lane golf course on Tuesday August 26.

Fellow players carried out CPR at the scene and the club's defibrillator "had been fetched from the club house" - said a spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service which deployed two ambulances and a paramedic officer to the emergency which unfolded at around 10.25am.

The spokesman added: "Medics took over resuscitation attempts with advanced life support being carried out and resuscitation attempts continued on route to Russells Hall Hospital where a team of medics were waiting the man's arrival.”

Despite their efforts, nothing could be done to save the businessman.

A spokesman for the golf club said: "Mike had been a member for about five months and he'd settled in well and was enjoying his time here."
