VISITORS to Stourbridge’s Mary Stevens Park will not be allowed to access the area via the Heath Lane entrance this weekend.

As part of the £3.1 million improvement, the main access point into the park is being temporarily closed for resurfacing works between the main gates.

The Heath Lane entrance will be closed to cars between on Saturday, January 23, and Sunday, January 24, but visitors will be able to access the park via the Stanley Road entrance as normal throughout the weekend.

The programme of work, which is due to be completed in the summer, includes changes to the park’s railings, bandstand, war memorial and pool.

Borough Councillor Hilary Bills, cabinet member elect for environment, said: "I am delighted to see the restoration work is getting nearer to completion.

“Once again, I would like to extend sincere thanks to the public for bearing with us during these temporary changes to our usual operations.”

The Heath Lane entrance will be re-opened to pedestrians and vehicles on Monday, January 25.
