AFTER being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes eight years ago, one Norton man thought it was be a condition he would have for life.

Since his diagnosis, 57-year-old Tim Myatt, has seen his weight continually increase until he hit 120kg last year.

At that point, his son James – a qualified diabetes and obesity exercise GP referral specialist – decided to take his dad on as a project.

Tim said: “My weight was becoming detrimental to my health. I was struggling to do basic things like walking down the street.

“It got to the point where James said to me ‘we need to get you fixed dad - before it’s too late!’”

James put Tim through an intensive exercise training and healthy eating programme, as well as getting his dad to cut out his drinking.

And six months later, as well as losing more than three-and-a-half stone in weight, Tim was also no longer diabetic.

“When the doctor told me I was being taken off the diabetic register I was in disbelief,” Tim said. “I was amazed. Even though I was able to lose all the weight, I never actually thought I would get rid of the diabetes.

“My GP said that in all his years of being a doctor he has never been able to diagnose a reversal of type 2 diabetes.

"He seemed as pleased as me to have taken me off the register as this was a first for him.”

Tim is now encouraging other type 2 diabetics to follow in his footsteps to help reverse their condition diagnosis's.

He added: “The hard work of changing my eating and drinking habits and working on my exercise was so worth it.

“I lost 20kg thanks to James’ advice and supervision, and because of him I am now a different person. I feel so much better and can actually live an active life without trouble.

“This shows what can be done if you have the right help and support behind you.”
