NURSES at Mary Stevens Hospice are being celebrated by a Stourbridge company throughout May as part of a ‘Nurses Month’ campaign.

Distraction Box will be giving out a token of appreciation to all the nurses at the Hagley Road charity, as well as running a month-long nomination campaign, encouraging the community to nominate a nurse who deserves special recognition.

They will also be running a public raffle, costing £1, on the reception desks at the Hospice, with members of the public able to purchase tickets to try and win a "box of happy distractions".

At the end of the month, the team at Distraction Box will choose three deserving nurses from all nominated to receive a special gift as a thank you for the work done by them and their colleagues.

Rachael Field, founder of Distraction Box, a subscription-based company which sends subscribers a box each month through the post, filled with items and gifts to encourage adults to focus on their mental health and personal wellbeing, said: “My nan spent some time in the hospice before she sadly passed away.

“It was a traumatic time for the family, but I remember the kindness of the Hospice nurses so fondly during that time.

“They were not only wonderful with my nan, but they really supported us as a family. I decided to give back to the hospice and joined as a volunteer in IPU – my Nan would have wanted it!

“Since working behind the scenes, my respect for the work the nurses do has grown even more. That is why I'm partnering with MSH to remind the nursing team how much they are loved and appreciated.”

Dan Malin, PR specialist at Mary Stevens Hospice, said: “Obviously, we know Rach here anyway for all the fantastic work she does with the families in our IPU and her company is the embodiment of a message which we also support here at the hospice.

“A huge part of what we do is our holistic approach to taking care of the mind and spirit, in order to best care for the body, so working with Rach on something like this is something we're proud to do.

“Our nurses inspire us every single time they step in the building, and it's wonderful to be able to show them how grateful we are for the work they do.”
