MORE than 60 prep school pupils from across the Midlands flocked to Old Swinford Hospital School to attend the annual schools’ summer festival.

Youngsters from as far afield as Newark, Solihull and Kidderminster pitted their wits and sporting skills against each other as they took part in scienece, music sport and drama activities at the Heath Lane school last Thursday (June 13).

Pupils from The Knoll School, Kidderminster, walked away with the prestigious OSH Science Challenge Cup for their overall winning performance after a day of looking at chemical reactions, bridge building and taking part in a wind turbine challenge.

They also used microscopes to look at mini-beasts, fungus and their own cells.

Youngsters in the music group spent the morning composing on keyboards and computers before performing in front of all pupils at the end of the day.

Drama students developed mime and vocal techniques through different dramatic games and improvisations before laying on two comic performances.

Sporty youngsters also competed in a mini-athletics tournament, with some learning to throw the hammer for the first time.

Peter Jones, headmaster at Old Swinford Hospital School, said: “We were delighted with how well everyone worked together, got involved and enjoyed participating in all the different activities.”
