TENNIS sessions for blind and partially-sighted people across Dudley  borough have been proving a huge hit.

The free monthly sessions at the David Lloyd Leisure Centre on Pensnett Road, Brierley Hill, are run by Stourbridge charity, Thomas Pocklington Trust Resource and Information Centre, based in Oldswinford, which supports people with sight loss.

David Raybould, a support worker at the information centre, said: “We use badminton courts with the nets dropped down and give people junior rackets to play with. We are totally flexible and anyone can play, whatever their level of sight.”

He said players use a large ball containing metal bearings and are allowed a certain number of bounces depending on their level of sight loss.

He added: “It has proved so popular we are currently booking four courts at a time and we have been given a grant towards the project so we are able to offer these sessions for free.”

Anyone who would like to take part in the sessions should call 01384 889882 or email david.raybould@pocklington-trust.org.uk
