A HEADTEACHER suspected of possessing indecent images has been suspended from his post at Oldswinford CE Primary School pending a police investigation.

Ross Workman was immediately suspended on November 3 after he was arrested as part of an inquiry into alleged online child sexual exploitation.

Police say at this stage there is no evidence of any inappropriate contact between the 49-year-old and pupils at the school.

Computer equipment has been seized from his home and the school premises and officers are contacting schools where Mr Workman has previously worked to inform them of the investigation.

Parents received a letter from Stan Williams, chairman of governors at the Field Lane school, informing them of the investigation.

Mr Williams assured parents that school life would continue as normal and said: “We have been advised by police that at this stage of the inquiry there is no evidence of any inappropriate contact between the member of staff and pupils at the school."

Dudley Council has also opened a telephone helpline for anyone with concerns.

Councillor Tim Crumpton, cabinet member for children’s services, added: “We are working closely with the school and its governing body. We cannot comment further as it may prejudice legal proceedings.”

Director of education for the Diocese of Worcester, Ann Mundy said: “We are aware that Mr Workman has been arrested as part of a police investigation and as a result has been suspended from his role as headteacher.

"We always take the safeguarding of pupils in our schools very seriously and are working with the school during this difficult period.

"We would like to remember all those involved in or affected by this investigation in our prayers.”

A West Midlands Police spokesman said Mr Workman has been released on bail, without charge while investigations are ongoing.
