GARY Price beat all the odds when he was diagnosed with bowel and liver cancer.

He was struck with the killer disease two-and-a-half years ago and given only a five per cent chance of survival.

Now Gary has been celebrating his complete recovery by taking part in charity bike rides.

He has already completed a 100-mile ride in Holland last month.

Now the 52-year-old international engineering product manager from Yarnborough Hill in Stourbridge will embark on a much more testing 360-mile ride from London to Paris next week.

Gary will set off with five friends next Wednesday for the trip which will coincide with the final stage of this year's Tour de France.

Gary will be raising funds for Mary Steven Hospice and Cancer Research UK.

But more importantly, he wants to prove to fellow cancer sufferers that the disease can be beaten.

He recalled: "From the point where I was diagnosed, I always kept active through walking and cycling; and maintained a positive attitude. It can be beaten and that's the message I want to send."

Gary is being backed in his cycling quest by Stourbridge estate agent The Lee, Shaw Partnership which has donated £2,500. And Gary's company Eriks has added a further £500.

He added: "I've also obtained support from some of our suppliers and I'm hoping to raise somewhere in the region of £5,000."
